India B2B business statistics 2026

India’s B2B ecosystem spans millions of enterprises across manufacturing, trading and services. The scale of this business universe makes market segmentation increasingly important for companies looking to identify relevant customers, suppliers, distributors and commercial partners.
The latest government data provides a useful snapshot of this landscape.
India Has Over 9.6 Crore MSME Registrations
According to the Ministry of MSME’s Performance Dashboard, India recorded 9.60 crore Udyam and Udyam Assist Platform registrations as of 17 September 2026. This includes approximately 5.35 crore Udyam registrations and 4.25 crore Udyam Assist Platform registrations.
These figures demonstrate the scale of India’s formalising MSME ecosystem. They should not, however, be treated as a count of unique B2B companies or as a direct measure of B2B market size. The registrations include enterprises across different activities and business models.
Trading, Services and Manufacturing
The MSME dashboard reports the following activity distribution as of 17 September 2026:
| Business Activity | Registrations |
|---|---|
| Trading | 4.02 crore |
| Services | 3.68 crore |
| Manufacturing | 1.90 crore |
Trading represents the largest activity category, followed by services and manufacturing.
This structure is important for B2B market analysis because different activities create different commercial ecosystems. Manufacturers may require industrial suppliers and distributors, trading businesses can create extensive channel networks, while service businesses generate demand for technology, professional services and other business solutions.
India's Corporate Company Base
The corporate ecosystem provides another important layer of India’s business landscape.
The Ministry of Corporate Affairs reported 21,72,201 active companies as of 31 July 2026, alongside 5,22,657 active LLPs. The same period recorded 21,511 company incorporations during July 2026.
These figures represent a different population from MSME registrations and should not be combined with them to estimate India’s total number of businesses. They instead provide a view of the formal corporate structure administered through the MCA ecosystem.
Why These Statistics Matter for B2B Markets
The numbers show why India’s B2B market cannot be approached as one homogeneous audience.
A company looking for customers may need to narrow the market by:
Geography → Industry → Company Type → Company Scale → Business Stage → Business Need
The result is a much more focused addressable market than the overall business universe.
For example, a technology provider targeting manufacturers would have a very different target universe from a logistics company targeting traders or a professional-services firm targeting private companies.
This is where business statistics become market intelligence: the objective is not simply to know how many businesses exist, but to understand where relevant businesses are concentrated and which segments fit a particular commercial objective.
